I think the great flaw in Lightroom, as one who does his own printing, is the inability to crop and then rezise photographs to precise dimensions and resolution before printing. If there is a way to do this, it is certainly a lot less than intuitive and I have not found it. The program need the equivalent of Photoshp’s “Resize” command or else it will never be useable to me as a stand-alone. Right now, I must export to Photoshop to get the dimensions I want and therefore, I print in Photoshop.

Thanks for the kind words! In Lightroom, the resizing happens when the data is sent to the printer. Try this:
– crop to desired aspect ratio (press R to jump to crop tool)
– move to Print module
– set the Cell size to match print dimensions, check the Zoom to Fill to make sure it fills the cell
– enter desired resolution in the Print Job panel
– configure all other settings as desired (most importantly the color management settings)
When you click Print Lightroom will take the source file, apply all Lightroom adjustments made in Develop (including cropping), then use the settings in the Print module to resize and manage color while sending that data to the printer. Hope that helps.
Try a test and compare those results with the same photo taken into Photoshop and resized.
