The greatest performance increase I have experienced was after getting an SSD. I now have a 160GB SSD as the system drive, LR catalog+previews, and a 640GB HDD for the image library. Details here: http://automagisk.no/blog/2010/01/11/macbook-with-two-drives-160gb-ssd-640gb-hdd/

No, there isn't any setting. I wonder if she is using a graphical ID plate and just adds it after she creates the new catalog? Could she have an empty catalog file that contains the custom ID plate and then just creates a copy of that to start a new catalog? The ID plate is stored in the actual catalog, so when a new catalog is created via File > New Catalog or export there is no custom ID plate included.

Hey, i searched identity plate on your site and this is the only post that i got. and it didn't really answered my question.

So this is off-topic for performance in lightroom. here goes... i noticed that in my friend's lightroom, every time she starts a new catalog her identity plate remains the same customized one. When i tried it with mine, it doesn't do it.

So i was wondering is there a default file that lightroom uses to start and new catalog and by changing the default settings in that, the ID plate for every new catalog will also change...?

Reuben
PS: I wished i had 20 GB free on my harddisk for faster performance. But 1:1 rendering sure helps loads!
